0 Jon Sandler to Release “Late Night Champ” June 12th | NYC Release Show June 10th at City Winery
Brooklyn-based indie pop artist Jon Sandler‘s soulful voice, honest lyrics and charismatic stage presence have taken him from small town fame to Billboard Magazine. Sandler, whose music evokes comparisons to Adam Levine and Tracy Chapman, will release his debut full length album Late Night Champ (6/12, super duper records) a disc that represents the “everyman’s” struggle with love, life, time and constantly learning — sometimes the hard way — about the world and ourselves.

Jon Sandler to Release “Late Night Champ” 6/12
Originally from Albany, NY, Sandler achieved regional acclaim for his arsenal of catchy and melodic tunes; later singing the national anthem at the 20,000 seat Pepsi Arena. Seven years ago, Sandler made the move to New York, and has since performed over 200 shows at popular venues such as Rockwood Music Hall (Stages 1 and 2), Mercury Lounge, Knitting Factory, Pianos, Arlene’s Grocery, Sullivan Hall, Southpaw, and two sold out shows at the Triad Theater. He has opened for recording artists Teddy Geiger, Mission Hill, Terra Naomi, Green River Ordinance, Sleeperstar and last August played the Nikon Theater at Jones Beach opening for Jimmy Buffett.
With the release of Late Night Champ (mixed by Justin Gerrish, who also mixed Vampire Weekend’s Grammy Nominated Album Contra), Sandler successfully bridges genre, age, and cultural backgrounds by truly offering something for everyone –both musically and topically. The album title refers to “a way of life and an anthem that a lot of people can relate to,” he said. “I feel like I actually function better between the hours of 1am-4am, and I realized, after performing the song live, that people connect and relate to the song’s message. I often hear other people declare that “I am a Late Night Champ!”’

2 New Music Tuesday: Swear and Shake
Swear and Shake is a New York City based folk quartet who released their first EP, Extended Play, in 2010 and are currently rocking out around the NYC region. While their image is simple, charming and warm, so is their music. Swear and Shake’s genre is not strictly folk – there are seamless hints of indie and pop freshly mixed into their tunes. Singer-songwriters Kari Spieler and Adam McHeffey create beautiful, melodious vocals and heart grabbing lyrics. Bassist Shaun Savage and drummer Tom Elefante bring every song to life with catchy, colorful beats and driving energy.
You can catch Swear and Shake at Hillstock in Brooklyn, New York on June 4th.
About: “Although their first EP, “Extended Play,” is still hot off the presses, critics and fans have been quick to applaud New York City-based quartet Swear and Shake for their old-school, smoky, soulful vocals, taught harmonies, poignant lyrics and fun folk-pop. Newsday praised the band, comparing them to indie darlings Mumford & Sons and Bon Iver. Brooklyn Belles described front lady Kari Spieler’s pipes as, “strong but sweet…a young June Carter Cash,” countered only by drummer Tom Elefante’s explosive percussion.” (Read more from their bio)

Full Disclosure: Swear and Shake are a great band but we don’t work for them. We just dig their tunes.
